Here’s Why You Should Always Remove Your Makeup Before Bed

Even if you feel like your makeup is mostly off after a long day at the office, you need to remove it entirely with specific products to make sure your skin can breathe correctly. Here’s why you should permanently remove your makeup before bed.

The skin on your face is one of the most sensitive, so it will be the first to show any imperfections or get irritated. That’s why cleaning it thoroughly is especially important before going to sleep.

The consequences of sleeping with makeup

It’s possible that after a night of partying or a stressful day at work, you might forget or even avoid taking your makeup off. If you do this occasionally, you probably won’t notice any changes. However, doing it regularly can cause temporary and permanent issues to your skin.

Here are some of the consequences of sleeping with your makeup on:

- Clogged pores

Clogged pores mean imperfections, blemishes, acné, and blackheads.

- Loss of eyelashes

If you don’t remove mascara before sleeping, your eyelashes can become dry and brittle.

- Skin dryness

Sleeping with any makeup on your face can cause dryness and fissures in your lips.

- Premature aging

Even though you cannot avoid aging as a whole, you can prevent it. Leaving your makeup on prevents cells from regenerating. Plus, residues of cosmetic products clog the pores and prevent an optimal oxygenation process from taking place. As if that weren’t enough, toxins derived from chemicals in makeup deteriorate the tissues and increase the early appearance of expression lines and fine wrinkles.

- Appearance of styes

Failing to properly remove eye makeup before bed (mascara and eyeliner) may clog your hair follicles and oil glands on the eyelids.
